Although locations are usually configured by a technician when the devices are being installed, it is possible and simple to do the configuration yourself. Let’s see how we would do that.
If the target location already exists
If the location you want to put a device in already exists, the most simple way to change a device’s location is to click and drag it to the target location. The most common uses cases for this would be if a new device was added or a defect one being replaced. Please refer to the picture below.
If the location does not exist yet
If the location you are looking for does not exist already, it is easy enough to create it. Here are the steps to follow.
- Click on the device that you want to change the location
- Look for the blue cog and click on it. This will open the settings for this device. See picture below.
- In the configuration, type the location you desire next to the Location label.
- Click save changes.
- Refresh the page (f5 or ctrl+r). You may have to wait a few seconds for the change to take place.
The new location will be under your device location filter on the left or sorted alphabetically among the other locations in the All devices tab.
